Prof. Ljiljana Trajkovic IEEE Life Fellow Simon Fraser University, Canada | Ljiljana Trajkovic received the Dipl. Ing. degree from the University of Pristina, Yugoslavia, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and computer engineering from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles. She is currently a professor in the School of Engineering Science, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Her research interests include communication networks and dynamical systems. She served as IEEE Division X Delegate/Director and President of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Dr. Trajkovic serves as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems and Associate Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Open Journal of Systems Engineering. She is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Circuits and System Society and the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society and a Fellow of the IEEE. |
Prof. Michail Matthaiou IEEE Fellow Queen's University Belfast, U.K | Michail (Michalis) Matthaiou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1981. He obtained the Diploma degree (5 years) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2004. He then received the M.Sc. (with distinction) in Communication Systems and Signal Processing from the University of Bristol, U.K. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Edinburgh, U.K. in 2005 and 2008, respectively. From September 2008 through May 2010, he was with the Institute for Circuit Theory and Signal Processing, Munich University of Technology (TUM), Germany working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. He is currently a Professor of Communications Engineering and Signal Processing and Deputy Director of the Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI) at Queen’s University Belfast, U.K. after holding an Assistant Professor position at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. He has also held research visiting appointments at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, U.S.A., Linköping University, Sweden and Southeast University, China. His research interests span signal processing for wireless communications, beyond massive MIMO, intelligent reflecting surfaces, mm-wave/THz systems and deep learning for communications. He has published in excess of 250 papers on these topics, including some 120 IEEE journal papers. Dr. Matthaiou and his coauthors received the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Leonard G. Abraham Prize in 2017. He currently holds the ERC Consolidator Grant BEATRICE (2021-2026) focused on the interface between information and electromagnetic theories. He was awarded the prestigious 2018/2019 Royal Academy of Engineering/The Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship and also received the 2019 EURASIP Early Career Award. His team was also the Grand Winner of the 2019 Mobile World Congress Challenge. He was the recipient of the 2011 IEEE ComSoc Best Young Researcher Award for the Europe, Middle East and Africa Region and a co-recipient of the 2006 IEEE Communications Chapter Project Prize for the best M.Sc. dissertation in the area of communications. He has co-authored papers that received best paper awards at the 2018 IEEE WCSP and 2014 IEEE ICC and was an Exemplary Reviewer for IEEE Communications Letters for 2010. In 2014, he received the Research Fund for International Young Scientists from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier Physical Communication, a Senior Editor for IEEE Wireless Communications Letters and IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, and an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications. He is an IEEE Fellow. |

Prof. Xiaoping Li Gungdong University of Technology, China | Dr. Xiaoping Li is a distinguished professor of the Hundred Talents Program in Gungdong University of Technology. He is an IEEE Senior member and a Distinguished member of China Computer Federation (CCF). He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Applied Computer Science from the Harbin University of Science and Technology in 1993 and 1999, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Applied Computer Science from the Harbin Institute of Technology in 2002. Dr. Vishnu Pendyala San Jose State University, USA | Vishnu Pendyala is an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Data Science at the College of Professional and Global Education and was an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) distinguished speaker. He is the current chair of the IEEE Computer Society Silicon Valley chapter, and IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor. He teaches and conducts research in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science. He gave numerous (50+) invited talks in conferences, faculty development programs, and other forums. He has more than two decades of experience in the software industry in Silicon Valley. His book, "Veracity of Big Data," is available in several libraries, including those of MIT, Stanford, CMU, and internationally. He holds an MBA in finance from Osmania University, India and a doctoral degree in computer engineering from Santa Clara University. |

Prof. Cosimo Distante IEEE Senior Member, The National Research Council (CNR) & University of Salento, Italy | Master in Computer Science at the University Bari, and PhD in Engineering at University of Salento (Italy). His main expertise are in the field of Artificial Intelligent, in particular Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Image Processing, Machine Learning and Robotics. Particular emphasis is devoted to the development of Deep Learning algorithms. He has been a visiting researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA) where has carried out research activities under robotics, artificial neural networks and vision. Dr. Distante joined the Faculty of the University of Massachusetts as a Teaching Assistant, for the "Artificial Intelligence" 683 class of the Master in Sciences 1998. He received the Ph.D. in Material Engineering from the University of Salento. Dr. Distante joined in 2001 the Italian National Research Council of Italy CNR, focusing his research activity in the context of robot learning, visual grasping and pattern recognition applied to array of chemical sensors. Dr. Distante has been awarded with several fellowships, among them the CNR-NATO in which he has collaborated with the University of Manchester (Prof. Krishna Persaud) for the study of pattern recognition techniques applied to the context of gas sensor arrays for parameter drift reduction. Since 2003 he is Contract Professor for the courses of Pattern Recognition and Image Processing in Computer Engineering at the University of the Salento IT. Since 2010 he started a technology transfer activity by establishing a startup spinoff company named Taggalo. In 2011, Dr. Distante has been awarded with the national innovation Prize working capital PNI-Cube TelecomItalia with the Taggalo project. He won the ChallengUP (Cisco, Intel and Deutch Telekom acceleration program) contest in 2015 with Taggalo. He served as general chair of several established conferences, among them the IEEE AVSS 2017 that focus on videosurveillance, the Video analytics for Audience mearuserement that focus on computer vision tech. for retail and digital signage. He is coordinating several joint research lab between CNR and Leonardo-Finmeccanica for security technology that focus on face recognition in the wild and videosurveillance, and between CNR and a pool of SMEs for the health sector. He is the unit manager of the Institute of Applied sciences and Intelligent system of the CNR where leads a group of researchers, PhD students, coordinates two industrial joint labs (security and health). He is expert member in innovation for the Ministry of Education, Research and University (MIUR), as well as the Ministry of economic development (MISE) and a few regional agencies for technology and innovation. |
Prof. Dongning Liu Guangdong University of Technology, China | Dongning Liu is a full professor of Guangdong University of Technology in China (2009-now). He was born on Jan. in 1979. He is responsible for teaching discrete math in School of Computer Science and Technology. He is engaged in education and technology transfer on collaborative computing. He is a vice dean of School of Computer Science and Technology. Dr. Liu earned a Ph.D. in Logic at Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China (2007). He was a post Ph.D. in Math at Sun Yat-Sen University (2007-2009). He was a visiting professor in Nipissing University,North Bay, Canada (2015-2016). He has published more than 60 papers on computer magazines and international conferences. He is an associate editor for the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Magazine. He is a reviewer for several IEEE Transactions and other journals. Prof. Wai Lok Woo IEEE Fellow Northumbria University, UK | Prof Wai Lok Woo received the BEng and MSc degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and the PhD degree in Statistics and Machine Learning from the Newcastle University, UK. He is the recipient of the IEE Prize and the British Commonwealth Scholarship. Prof Woo currently holds the Chair in Machine Learning with Northumbria University, UK. He is the Faculty Postgraduate Research Director (Engineering and Environment), and Head of Research Cluster for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology. He was previously the Director of Research for Newcastle Research and Innovation Institute, and Director of Operations of Newcastle University. His major research is in the mathematical theory and algorithms for data science and analytics. This includes areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, latent component analysis, multidimensional signal and image processing. He has an extensive portfolio of relevant research supported by a variety of funding agencies. He has published over 450 papers on these topics on various journals and international conference proceedings. He serves as Associate Editor to several international signal processing journals including IET Signal Processing, Journal of Acoustics, Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He actively participate in international conferences and workshops, and serves on their organizing and technical committees. He is a Fellow of the Institution Engineering Technology (IET) and Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE). Prof Woo has delivered more than 20 keynote addresses in Singapore, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Ireland, Latvia, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. He provides expert evaluation to several funding bodies in the UK, the EU (Horizon2020) and North America. |
